Our Story

Springfield Pride began with a simple wish — to see our rural community come together in celebration of love, identity, and inclusion. After moving back to Manitoba in June 2023, one of our founders attended Winnipeg Pride and couldn’t help but imagine something similar in our own backyard. That same spark returned in May 2024, and with it came action.

A phone call to Shelley set everything in motion. Without hesitation, she jumped in to help — and within days, a flyer was created and shared in the Oakbank Rant & Rave. The response? Instant. Shane reached out almost immediately, eager to support in any way he could. What we didn’t expect was that Shane — a proud Canadian military veteran — had once been persecuted for being gay during the Canadian Military Purge. His strength, story, and passion became part of our foundation.

From that moment on, Springfield Pride was no longer just a casual community BBQ. With Shane on board and momentum building, our little idea transformed into a full-fledged Pride celebration, welcoming over 200 people in its very first year.

This is only the beginning — and we’re so proud to keep growing with you.
