Our Story

Springfield Pride grew from a single, heartfelt idea: that our rural community deserved a space to celebrate love, identity, and belonging. When Kristin moved back to Manitoba in June 2023 and attended Winnipeg Pride, she couldn’t shake the feeling that something just as joyful and affirming could happen right here at home. By May 2024, that spark had turned into determination.

A call to Shelley was the first step —within days, a flyer was designed and posted on the Oakbank Rant & Rave. Seeing a pride event happening in the RM of Springfield, Shane reached out and offered his enthusiastic support. Kristin and Shelley were in awe of the depth of his story: as a proud Canadian military veteran, Shane had once been persecuted for being gay during the Canadian Military Purge. His courage, resilience, and commitment quickly became part of the heart of Springfield Pride.

With Shane now in the mix the plan was in motion! What none of us expected, was for our tiny pride gathering to grow into a Springfield Pride BBQ that hosted over 200 people in it's very first year. 

And this is only the beginning. Springfield Pride continues to grow because of the people who show up, speak up, and stand together. We’re honoured to build this with you.
